MESSy Symposium helt in Oberpfaffenhofen

All members of the MESSy Consortium and users of the model system were invited to Oberpfaffenhofen. The 13th MESSy Symposium were helt at Deutsches Zentrum für Luft-und Raumfahrt from 24th until 26th of June 2025. Developers and users of the Modular Earth Submodel System (MESSy) met to present their latest developments and results obtained with the model system, and to discuss open issues and future directions.

In total 18 oral presentations and 12 posters were presented. The topics ranged from technical developments and extensions of the model system infrastructure to support the execution of MESSy as plugin in the Community Interface (ComIn) with the ICOsahedral model system (ICON) and the extension of the dynamical core towards adaptive grids, to applications of the model system to analyse convection, investigate air quality, and aerosol formation.

For the first time, the participants could enjoy a tutorial on changes and improvements of the build process of MESSy and learn how to build model executables with Cmake using different configuration options. Discussions could be deepened during the poster sessions, coffee breaks and evening dinners. An interactive discussion round was helt to gain insight for wishes from the community, to get feedback on future directions and to discuss the topic of opening up the model system under an open source license.

The programme of the symposium is available here, presentations and posters can be downloaded using the following link: 13th MESSy Symposium Presentations (password protected).
